The Newmarket National Play Festival is excited to introduce the names of the performing artists that will be featured in this year’s 3rd annual Ten Minute Play Festival, July 22-28, 2019 in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada.
Scott Baker - Buried, Monsieur Leotard, The Steward
As a Newmarket native, Scott is thrilled to make his Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival debut. Scott established his professional career on the east coast after graduating from Dalhousie’s acting programme and is now including film and tv credits in Toronto. His notable performances include As You Like It (Two Planks and a Passion), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Shakespeare by the Sea), Ghost Sonata (Dalhousie Theatre), and Leaving Wonderland (Luna Sea Theatre). TV credits include The Boys (Amazon Prime), The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (Lifetime), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) and more. Love to my family and friends for coming out and enjoying the NNPF!
Gwyn Beaver - Valse Sentimentale, Viola
Gwyn has been a featured artist with the Montréal Jubilation Choir, and has worked with various jazz artists based in Montréal. She also presents concerts in the classical/operatic genre. Gwyn has performed with the l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Jongleur Opera, University of Québec at Montréal Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Cimarron Circuit Opera, The University of Texas Opera Theatre, and was an apprentice with the Houston Ebony Opera. Other credits include university and community theatre, including on-camera work with Les Enfants Production and Montréal Casting. She is a stagiaire with the Union des Artistes.
Bridget Bezanson - Buried, Seducing Harry, Written in Stone
Bridget is excited for her third summer with the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival. She is an actor and classically trained singer with credits in regional theatre throughout Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Favourite performances include Funeral Sandwiches (NNPF), Rockbound (Two Planks and a Passion), Love You Forever (Stirling Festival), No Way to Treat a Lady (Festival Antigonish), and Annie (Neptune Theatre). Other credits include voice work in radio drama and animation (CBC), radio commercials, and narration. A versatile vocalist, Bridget has recently performed at corporate events for Manulife and Shoppers Drug Mart, and performs regularly as a soloist and band singer. Bridget Bezanson is a member of Canadian Actors Equity Association.
Meredith Busteed - Secret Santa, Written in Stone
Meredith is thrilled to be joining The Newmarket National Ten Minute Play Festival this summer. She is a music theatre performer with credits in regional theatre throughout Southern Ontario and the United Kingdom. Favourite performances include The Wizard of Oz (Diversified Theatre), 9 to 5 The Musical (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), Assassins (RCS), Up the River (Thousand Islands Playhouse), Anne in Anne of Green Gables (MMT), and Mary in Mary’s Wedding (Theatre Kingston). Other credits include commercials with Rogers (Next Issue), Anti-mean tweets campaign (Sportsnet). Katherine Cappellacci - Dispatch, Plus ça change, Secret Santa
Katherine is overjoyed to be returning to the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival. Since receiving her BFA from Ryerson University’s School of Performance, Katherine has been acting, writing, travelling, and trying to save money. Recent theatre credits include: That’s Amore (Globus Theatre), Ghostbusters (Secret Sessions), Wagon Play (Theatre By Committee), The Kiss/The Pipe Test/Readahilics (Newmarket National Play Festival), Queen Marie (Alumnae Theatre), The Next Mary (Ergo Arts Pink Festival), and Snow White (Globus Theatre). Stephanie Christiaens - Like a Kite, Written in Stone
Steph is excited to be making her debut at the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival! She has been performing around Southwestern Ontario for over 20 Years and recently made her professional debut last summer at the Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover in Stage Fright. Favourite performances include The Day They Shot John Lennon (Players’ Guild of Hamilton), Noises Off! (Dundas Little Theatre), The Whores (Stage 88), Key For Two (The Aldershot Players), and Don’t Misunderstand Me (Act 4 Productions). Other credits include TV commercials (CTV London), independent film productions (Post-Life Productions), and reporting for Rogers Local access network.
Tristan Claxton - Dispatch, The Last House, Monsieur Leotard
Tristan is thrilled to be returning for his second summer here at The Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival. Taylor Cranston- Centre Line, The Last House
Taylor is thrilled to be making her Newmarket National Ten-Minute Play Festival debut! She is an actor and singer, who will be starting her third year in the Acting program at the Ryerson School of Performance. Heather is delighted to be returning to the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival after appearing in the inaugural Festival in 2017. She is an actor, director and voice artist with credits across Canada. Favourite performances include: Knickers! James Evans - The Last House, Not Going Nowhere, Seducing Harry
James Llewellyn Evans is a Newmarket actor who began acting under the tutelage of Michael Halfin at Arts Huron before studying at the University of Windsor's BFA Acting conservatory. James has appeared on television and on film, as well as continued work in plays locally and across the GTA. This is James' third year with NNPF. He also appeared in Louis and Dave, the inaugural ten minute play that launched the Newmarket National Play festival.
Georgia Findlay - Indifference, Like a Kite, Penance
Georgia is incredibly proud to be a part of this year’s Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival. She is a recent graduate of George Brown Theatre School, and is excited to be diving into her professional career as an actor and theatre-maker. Bryce is excited to be performing at the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival for the first time. Stage credits include Goodbye Paris (Professional Dev. Harper Gunn - Nothing but the Tooth
Harper is very excited to be a part of this production. She has been acting since the age of three. On her bucket list, she dreams of one day performing alongside Anna Kendrick and she also dreams of one day being a film director who creates art that will make the world a better place. Stage credits include Soulpepper’s A Doll’s House directed by Daniel Brooks and Motus O’s A Christmas Carol. TV and film credits include Shazam, Life in a Year, 12 Monkeys, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Harper would like to thank her moms Cameron and Monika, her brother, Solan, and her wonderful agents at KG Talent.
Veronica Hortiguela - A Different School of Thought, Electra, Talking about the Baker
Veronica is a born and raised Torontonian and recent graduate of the Ryerson Performance Acting Program. She made her professional stage debut in the 2018 Cue6 production of Dry Land, which was praised by the Globe and Mail as one of the Top 10 Theatre Performances of 2018, and landed her on NOW Magazine’s list of Breakthrough Theatre Artists of 2018. She has since been working on a few voice projects, including leading a soon to premiere PBS animated series. Veronica is thrilled to have been invited to participate in the NNPF, and to be spending the month telling dramatically different stories. Enjoy the festival!
Julia Hussey- Running Low, Secret Santa
Julia is thrilled to be returning to the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival for the third year in a row, and is very grateful to Half and the rest of the team for putting up with her for another year. A Fredericton native, Julia found her second home in the Newmarket area after completing her BFA at York University. Favourite performances include Penelopiad (Hart House Theatre), Fallen (Home for Wayward Artists), Lemon (Filament Incubator).
Stephen Ingram - The Steward, Valse Sentimentale
Stephen is excited to be performing in the NNPF for the first time! He was born and raised in Hamilton, ON and resides in London, ON whenever not on the road performing. Stephen has been performing as an actor/musician in theatres across Ontario for the past two years and hopes to continue to do so. A graduate of Western University’s faculty of music, he is also a composer, music director, and music teacher. Recent credits include: Summer of ’69 (Victoria Playhouse Petrolia) Glory Days (Upper Canada Playhouse), Plaid Tidings (Sudbury Theatre Centre), Aleck Bell (Tweed and Co. Theatre), Summer of Love (Meaford Hall).
Daniel Karpenchuk - The Last House, Not Going Nowhere, Valse Sentimentale
This is Dan’s second year with the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival. Dan is a professional actor who has worked in Canada and internationally. Favourite Performances include Sleuth (Rose Theatre, Brampton) Miracle on 34th Street (Upper Canada Playhouse, Morrisburg) The Drawer Boy (Rose Theatre, Brampton). Last year at the NNPF Dan appeared in Old Age and Treachery, Valentine’s Day and The Other Side. Selected theatre credits include The Prince of Naples, Merry Wives of Windsor, Othello, As You Like It, Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing. Film and television credits include Murdoch Mysteries, Taken, Mayday, Home for Harvest and Autumn Stables. Dan is also a writer, voice over artist and journalist. Faye Lavin - Parent/Child, Plus ça change, Talking about the Baker
Faye is excited to be at the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival for the first time. Faye is an actor, singer, dancer and producer with a rich background in the performing arts. Upon graduating from the elite Montreal school of music--Vincent d'Indy, followed by a stint at New York University's renowned affiliate CAP-21, she completed her training at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Recent theatre credits include Brilliant Traces (Tango Soul Productions, directed by Marianne McIsaac) and Duet for One (Tarragon Theatre, directed by Mark Schoenberg). JD Leslie - Parent/Child, Symphony No. 6, Viola
JD is delighted to return to the NewMarket National Play Festival. A graduate of the University of Windsor’s BFA Program, she has developed a background for devised and physical theatre. Upon graduation, she continued her training with the Factory Mechanicals ('18/'19) at Factory Theatre and has worked as a workshop actress for the Tarragon’s Young Playwright Unit, the Paprika Festival’s Playwrights-in-Residence and Obsidian’s Playwright’s Unit. When she’s not acting, she enjoys developing her craft as Playwright. Anna is thrilled to be joining the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival for the very first time. Originally from Saskatoon, she is a graduate of the Globe Theatre Actor Training Conservatory and the Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting program at the University of Saskatchewan. An actor, singer, mover, and multi-instrumentalist, Anna's theatrical work has appeared across Canada and taken her to Singapore, and her work in film has been screened internationally and been recognized for numerous awards. Kiana is a Chinese-Canadian actor, mover and creator with a special love for clown and physical theatre. She is a graduate of the BFA acting program at the University of Alberta. Kiana is incredibly excited to be a part of the Newmarket National 10 Minute Play Festival this year. Selected credits include: That’s Danger!
