Newmarket National Ten Minute Play Festival

New voices.  New Perspectives.  New Market.

Notice to Playwrights, Artists, and Supporters of the NNPF:

Almost one year ago we made the difficult decision to suspend the 2020 Newmarket National Play Festival. Now, well into the second year of the world’s battle with Covid 19, we have come to the difficult decision that staging the 2021 festival will not be possible.

We wish to thank the many, many of you who have been reaching out to us.  Your incredible support and belief in the importance of NNPF’s mandate to provide a stage for the diverse voices of Canadians from every corner of this country has steeled our determination to press on with the 2022 Festival.

We also wish to thank the Town of Newmarket, Ontario for their continued and enthusiastic support for NNPF 2022.

Most of all, we wish to thank the front-line workers and medical professionals who are courageously leading us through to the conclusion of this crisis.  It is your unrelenting effort that makes everything possible.

Playwrights, we have no information regarding the opening of the play submission window for 2022 because our priority remains with the 2020 cohort of play submissions that we are still considering for production.  An update on our protocols will be posted in the coming months.

It is an understatement to say that the world has changed; but what has not changed is our readiness to deal with the challenges that lie ahead.  Until that day comes, our message remains the same:  Stay well and stay safe until we can create together again, laugh together again, and celebrate together again all that makes us distinctly Canadian.

The NNPF is a Canadian Actors' Equity Association production under the Festival Policy.
